Getting to Memorial Day

The hot weather continues so Noah was more than willing to come over and help us uncover the pool.  Sadly the cover leaked a bit - plus with such a warm spring - there was some algae to deal with...and in the cover..some polliwogs and frogs..

It took Grandpa awhile to convince Noah that this frog was not alive...yes Michelle your son was playing with a dead frog....We also called Adam to find out how to care for polliwogs...and they are still alive...but not in the pool

A little shock and filtering and the pool was ready for a Brets Stults Dykema Brets Party

both pools are open

Not sure why Ken was picking at it...

Judah...these are girls!

We had more than we could eat - Thanks to everyone!

Broden did the board!

Boyne Mountain Adventures

On a very Hot day in May - when temps reached the 90's we went to Boyne Mountain/Bluegreen condos to celebrate the May Birthdays.  Bett on the 15th - Noah on the 19th - and Doug on the 21st.  The hot temps were a great present and the pools and the Avalanche Bay water slides were greatly appreciated by the boys...even Grandpa Doug!

Bett and Loren willingly displayed the technique of poolside chair use..just in case we could not figure it out

Judah was just as excited to be there as all of us

Noah with some presents

And an "Indo" board Grandpa Doug made

Thanks Bett and Loren for sharing this all with us!

Fun Time

Broden came over the other day and at dinner time ordered up some pancakes!
Of course he offered to help make them - so first - whip them eggs

Add all the other stuff and whip it up too

It just feels right to make pancakes!

Then of course we had to get to work to build some complex thing that was pictured on the box - but it took too long and someone did not want to give up his sticks to make it work right - so it got scrapped

But Broden does know how to stack blocks!  And knock them down for certain!

Grandma found some finger paint stuff that turned out to be soap..and shower finger paint.

Grandma also scored on finding an HO train set...It was not worth the price so she took it back...but they gave it to her for the $20.00 that I said it was worth.   So now another generation of us is into trains...at least for the moment.

Sally - Tim Hawkins and US

Sally came to town for a week or so - and invited us to the Hampton in for a pool party and pizza.

This photo shows she had four boys in her room at the hotel all at one time!

Tim Hawkins also came to town and Clayton and Michelle got us VIP Tickets so we could hang out with him for a while...but alas - he could not bring Chic-fil-et to Michigan!
We had plenty of laughs anyway.  Check him out on U tube if you do not know his stuff!

Here is the family pic where we were trying to get the camera to take delayed pictures...,  I neglected to include this in the last blog update...and I heard about it!

Casting for Hope

One of the fun surprises of this trip was the invitation to participate in the "Casting for Hope" fly fishing tournament.  This event was a fund raiser for a Cancer treatment center, and was organized by one of Adam's students as a a senior project, as the mother of the student had passed away from cancer the previous year.    It attracted some of the finest fly fishermen in the area.  And by inviting people like me - who has never fished this way,  They are assured of good scores.  It was very impressive and well run.

How to fly cast - lesson one!  No water...just cast.  And yes even in the yard I was able to accurately catch sticks and snag trees!...But once I got that out of the system - I never lost a rig in a snag while fishing

The tournament was held on two different rivers/creeks.  Each team of two - drew for their Morning spot and their PM spot.   This is the morning spot near Spruce Pine NC (right in town actually) - and due to recent rains - the river was deep, swift, and slightly cloudy - We took no fish out of this river.  Not many others did either.

The fact that a railroad track ran along the bank was reminiscent of days gone by - I really did not expect to see a train - but I was pleasantly surprised to hear this coal train come down the mountain.  Just as I gave a thumbs up to the engineer - he blew the whistle, just as Adam took the picture.  The (diesel horn actually) scared Adam...
...He claimed his waders leaked but I am not so sure!

Our Afternoon fishing spot was much better - tranquil - clear - with a quick little current, and two major fishing holes.  Of course someone else had fished here in the AM so there was no telling what might happen.

Adam had brought his home made rod along - and it nearly broke on the first fish...which broke the line and almost the rod - so he switched to this one.  This rod was first owned by His Grandpa Harve, who sold it on a garage sale...and my dad - Harold, bought it off the sale - and eventually he gave it and all the fly fishing stuff to Adam.

Uh...no that fish was no problem for the rod

This was my turn to tie into a big one.  I saw about 17" of him - so we think it was about a 20 inch-er or so,  I was working him to the shallows - but he took a dive and cut the line!
Bummer Dude!

This was the fish of the day on the line and Adam did an excellent job of fighting back and hanging on!

This is a 23 1/2 inch Rainbow Trout!

Yeah Buddy!

yes we put him back...that's the rules

Okay one more of Tahlia - this was goodbye grandma as we were getting ready to leave for home!

Quick Trip to North Carolina

Due to a very Generous Gift, Nancy and I were able to take a trip to Visit Adam and Sandra, and Tahlia!  While we took many photo's we will just share a few of the highlights

Tahlia was no doubt the center of attention

Of course once their hands were free of the Baby - the ladies quickly went back to surfing craig's list for garage sales and planning of other shopping excursions!

Cute Babe's

Grandpa that is quite a schnoz...hope that stays on your side of the fam!

One of Tahlia's favorite rides!...The Daddy

These legs can really jump!

Can this Lady really be a Grandma?  Ya wouldn't think so!

Good morning!
 Tahlia and OG coffee

We took so many pictures Sandra was confused about which camera to look at!

Did we do any fishing...you bet!  see the next blog entry
